Soylent Green
You know what goes really well with Solyent Green? Fava beans and a nice bottle of chianti. Charlton Heston, Chuck Connors and Edward G. Robinson (in his last film role) star in this solemn dystopian story that provides yet another chapter into the science fiction world's most famous and ultimate cookbook, "How To Serve Man".

The Promise
For me, the 90's is one of my favorite decades for movies. This was a time that, here in the United States, theaters were were filled with more independent and foreign films than at any point in American history. Therefore, expanding the variety that was available when going out to the cinema (once the new millineum began, blockbuster franchises started to systematically edge those kinds of films out). This film is an excellent example of the type of non-English speaking motion picture that made going to the theaters in the 1990's such an enriching and joyful experience. La Promesse, a "small" Belgian movie about a boy who comes of age as he comes into his own moral identity, is not only the best foreign film that I watched back in 1996, but also, one of the best foreign films of the whole decade.
