Scent of a Woman
Yeah, I know that Mr. Pacino won an Academy Award for this role. But, to be honest, I thought that his performance as a blind, curmudgeony war vet was a tad over the top, not to mention, a bit overrated. And yeah, while I agree that Al was in high octane form, still, I felt that the Oscar was awarded more because of an accumulation of years of developing his "loud screen persona", something which, IMO at least, has reached the level of consistently being "too much". Besides, I much more enjoy watching an actor, especially a seasoned one like A-Pac, bring a fresher approach to a role than the same-ol' same-ol' of which has become their standard signature. All that said, Scent Of A Woman is still an enjoyable journey of eye-opening inner-discovery and burgeoning friendship between two people of different chemistry.

Baraka (1993)
There are only two words that can describe this film: Koo oolll.....! No script, no dialogue, no storyline. Just a montaged journey that spans the entire planet. And this is one journey that is worth taking because it is one that not only takes the scenic route, but takes good advantage of it.

The Good Thief
A career thief and compulsive gambler comes out of his drug-addicted funk in order to make the score of a lifetime. But first, he must put together a crew capable enough to help him pull off the complicated heist, along with the proper tools required for such a security surrounded target. The mark: a bunch of priceless pieces of art. The obstacle: a tipped off police detective following his every move. The payoff: a comfortable lifestyle, along with the knowledge that he is still a good thief.

U.F.O. Abduction
Here's a movie that is also known as the "The McPherson Tape" but was originally planned to be called "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner", until they found out that that title had already been taken. A Thanksgiving family get-together gets interrupted by big-eyed visitors from, well... I'm sure most of you know by now where this is going. Upon deeper reflection of this film's holiday theme, I think that the story here might be an allegory of what happened to the Native Americans after they had the Pilgrims (i.e. White man) over for a turkey dinner. The McPherson family is supposed to represent the Natives and the aliens, the white man. But I'm not sure. I may have just made that up to sound allegorically astute for this post.
